Members have the opportunity to volunteer in a wide variety of ways in the areas that most interest them. This includes donating service hours to philanthropic and fundraising activities as well as serving on administrative committees that make the organization effective.
Member volunteers staff the Assistance League Thrift Shop, the main fundraising effort.They also work and staff the Blue Portal Gift Shop in Albuquerque Old Town, which offers for sale items made by senior crafters and artists. Other volunteers are puppeteers for The Kids on the Block or shop for the products that make up Assault Survivor Kits®. Other volunteers knit for the Tender Loving Care program. Membership is open to anyone, Yearly dues are $60. There are two membership categories: voting and nonvoting. Membership dues are the same for either category.
Voting Members: A voting member shall serve a period of orientation and training prescribed by the chapter. This shall include Assistance League orientation, participating in and supporting the philanthropic programs and fundraising activities of the chapter, attending chapter meetings, having the privilege of voting and holding office, paying annual chapter dues, and assuming member’s share of financial obligations as voted by the chapter.
Nonvoting Members: A nonvoting member may participate in and support the philanthropic programs and fundraising activities as determined by the chapter and may attend chapter meetings. Nonvoting members shall pay dues and shall not vote or hold office.
Social activities include several events during the year; some associated with fundraising activities while others are celebrations for the season.
