Learn how you can help!
The Blue Portal, known as one of the prime places to shop for gifts in Albuquerque Old Town, attracts both locals and tourists. It provides a unique outlet for about 400 senior crafters and artists to show and sell their work to supplement their income. Click here for our gallery.
Since its inception in 1978 at the request of the City of Albuquerque, The Blue Portal has served over 4,900 senior crafters and artists and has returned over $1.5 million to them.
October 2018 will mark our 40th anniversary. We hope to celebrate with the City of Albuquerque and the Balloon Fiesta to honor our mutual forty year celebration of our talented senior artisans.
2018 finds us with major structural repairs required on our facility. We know we will be closed January and February which is normal but this year may creep into March. Notifications will be forthcoming once we know our reopen dates and the dates for artisan intake resuming.
All workers at the Blue Portal, as with the entire Assistance League, are volunteers. There is no commission charged to the artists and they receive full price once the item sells. Art work remains in inventory for 90 days and unsold items are returned to the artists at that time.
The next artist intake day has not been determined at this time but will be as is customary, Monday between 10-2.
All sales people are Assistance League volunteers. We charge no commission and return the full proceeds of each sale to the individual crafter or artist.
Come visit us the next time you need a unique gift.
